RESEARCH TECHNOLOGIST II POSITION

Position status: Full-time, fixed term
Available: Immediately
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Description of the Position:	Working with a starting investigator in a
newly created laboratory in the Developmental Biology program, you will
carry out experiments addressing cytoskeletal-membrane interactions crucial
for completing cell division. You will use your knowledge of the following
techniques to study the role of a lipid kinase in Drosophila germ cell
cytokinesis:
- Molecular biology (PCR, cloning, sequencing, Northern and Southern blots),
- Protein biochemistry (Western blots, immunoprecipitation, affinity
chromatography)
- Drosophila molecular genetics (genetic crosses, production of transgenic
flies, RNA in situ hybridization),
- Tissue culture (Drosophila cells),
- Cytology (phase microscopy, immunofluorescence)
- Yeast molecular biology (two-hybrid analysis)

Your duties will include: maintaining the lab in smooth running order by
organizing lab stock collections (Drosophila, bacteria, yeast, tissue
culture cells, antibodies, plasmids), supervising the maintenance of
Drosophila stocks, ordering fly food and other reagents, and providing
initial training for new members of the laboratory.
The ability to maintain an independent research project would be a definite
asset.

Qualifications:	You are a highly motivated person interested in learning
new techniques. You are well organized and possess excellent interpersonal
skills. You are able to work independently as well as in a team.
Ideally, your training will include a completed B.Sc. or M.Sc. (preferred)
in biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or a related discipline,
combined with a minimum of one year experience in a similar setting.

Deadline: February 2, 2001
