Developmental Biology / Glycosylation and Cell Interactions
Extracellular domains of proteins are often glycosylated, i.e. modified
by covalently attached carbohydrate chains. These carbohydrate
modifications can significantly affect molecular interactions
influencing cell adhesion and signaling processes. The principal
research interest of our laboratory lies at the intersection of
Developmental and Cell Biology with the field of Glycobiology, and it is
focused on elucidation of the role of glycosylation in developmental
events and cell interactions. We are using the Drosophila model system,
known for its powerful molecular genetics, in combination with advanced
biochemical and cell biological approaches.
