The Molecular Genetics and Evolution Group at the Research School of 
Biological Sciences wishes to appoint a Manager to oversee the 
Australian Drosophila Biomedical Research Support Facility (OzDros), an 
NH&MRC Enabling Facility that supports Drosophila biomedical research 
throughout Australia. The facility houses many thousands of Drosophila 
stocks, and supplies them to Australian laboratories. It also carries 
out stock importation in accordance with AQIS regulations and is in the 
process of establishing Drosophila transformation technologies. The 
Manager is expected to have a PhD in genetics or a combination of a 
B.Sc. or equivalent degree that included genetics and extensive 
experience in laboratory management. The manager is responsible for the 
maintenance of Drosophila stocks and stock records, liaising with 
participating scientists throughout Australia, receiving, recording and 
responding to requests for stocks and advising Australian researchers on 
the use of Drosophila as a model organism. The Manager supervises a 
small number of technical staff who work in the facility. The successful 
candidate must have a research-level knowledge of and experience in 
genetics, must be meticulous in the maintenance of genetically defined 
laboratory stocks and have outstanding organizational and management 
skills.
