Hi Li,

You can also pick wandering larvae effectively with a paintbrush or a dissecting probe. You can also collect younger larvae by adding several mls of 20% sucrose to the vial or bottle. The larvae will float and are easily pipetted off using a cut tip. Be warned however, only do this on bottles/vials you are ready to discard.

Good luck.

Hi Li,

I collect wandering third instar larvae by picking them (as they wander around) from the food container wall with a blunt forceps . And feeding third instar (or other instars) larvae can be collected by placing the food (as they feed inside) in a petri dish and collect them on the basis of their size. Hope this helps.

Hi, Fruitfliers,

Does anyone have good ideas on collecting drosophila larvae? Thanks a lot.
