The Institute of Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene of the University of
Cologne is inviting applications for a
PhD position (initially for 2 years)
in innate immunity
The project will focus on deciphering the molecular and cellular events
underlying signalling through new receptors of the NLR-family (NOD-like
receptors) that are involved in mediating innate immune responses in humans.
We apply state-of-the-art cell biological and biochemical methods and use
the invasive human pathogen Shigella flexneri as a model system for
bacterial infection. Further details can be found on our webpage.
Your area of responsibility will include:
Characterization of the function of new NLR proteins (see Neerincx
et al. JBC 2010)
Use of state-of-the-art cell biological and biochemical methods
Cell culture and microbiological work
Work in a small, young and dynamic team
Integration in the collaborative research center SFB670
Work in international research collaborations
Minimum qualifications:
Master of Science degree or equivalent (above-average)
Basic knowledge of standard techniques in biochemistry, molecular
biology and /or cell biology
Specific interest in research in innate immunity
High motivation for experimental lab-work and ability to work
independently
Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
Basic knowledge in microbiology and immunology
Your salary will be based on TV-L 13.
The Board of Directors of the University Hospital of Cologne places strong
emphasis on gender equality and seeks to increase the proportional
representation of women in this field. Thus applications from female
