PLANT MOLECULAR GENETICIST
GENETIC IMPROVEMENT OF PEARL MILLET SEEDLING THERMOTOLERANCE AND TERMINAL
A plant molecular geneticist/ molecular physiologist is required to participate
in an ODA-funded project in collaboration with the International Crops Research
Centre for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad India and the John Innes
Cambridge laboratory, Norwich. The project is a continuation of previous work
in this area and is for a fixed term of 3 years.
The project involves the use of screening techniques in population improvement
and the use of molecular markers in conjunction with physiological studies to
identify QTLs for both seedling thermotolerance and terminal drought tolerance.
Qualifications and experience:
First class or upper second honours degree in a relevant subject and at least 2
years relevant postgraduate research experience, preferably with a PhD.
Practical experience in plant genetics, molecular mapping techniques and stress
physiology would be an advantage. The
appointee will be expected to assist as necessary with the evaluation of
material under field conditions in India.
