GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS/PLANT PHYSIOLOGICAL ECOLOGY. Graduate
assistantships are available for students interested in pursuing a M.S. or
Ph.D. in plant physiological ecology. A research assistantship is
available for a student to take part in a project that examines plant use
of different nitrogen sources within the environment. A second research
assistantship may also be available on a project that examines impact of
disturbance on nitrogen and carbon dynamics in warm and cold desert
ecosystems of the western United States. Study sites are located in Utah,
New Mexico, and Arizona. Past research has made extensive use of stable
isotopes at natural abundance levels, but students will be able to design
projects according to their own research interests. The University of
Arkansas has a young group of active ecologists offering a wide variety of
courses in ecology and evolutionary biology. For more information contact
