EMBL 56 available

Release 56 of the EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Database is available from
the EBI ftp server:
  ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/release
  ftp://ftp.ebi.ac.uk/pub/databases/embl/release/gcg   (GCG-format)

Release 56 contains 2,689,618 sequences comprising 1,904,091,473
nucleotides, an increase of about 15.5% over release 55.

Please note that the GSS division (Genome Survey Sequences) is now
represented by 4 files GSS1-GSS4, and that there are 19 EST files
(EST1-EST19) at this release.

For those who mirror our cumulative update file (cumulative.dat.Z)
containing new and updated sequence data since the last full database
release,  please note  that this will be changed to include only
post-release 56 data at Fri Oct 2 16:00:00 BST 1998.
