GFP expression

I heard from indirect source that there is a strategy by which GFP
expressing cells, in culture or in transgenic animals, can be killed
preferentially.  Can someone provide some references and/or confirmation
of the existence of such a strategy.  If there is, what is the principle
and/or the procedure?
