Recommended background reading on linkage analysis

What texts do people recommend as background/introductory reading for a
graduate student who will not be performing linkage analysis but needs to
understand the basics?

I have already given her the FAQ, and Jurg Ott's text. However these lack
the general overview suitable for this purpose.
