The UCSD Glycobiology Program seeks an outstanding individual with a
strong background in NMR spectroscopy and chemistry of carbohydrates,
and an interest in biology, to develop sensitive approaches for the
study of biologically relevant oligosaccharides. A Ph.D. in Organic or
Physical Chemistry or related discipline, along with training in current
NMR techniques is required. Experience with chromatography, mass
spectrometry, and microanalysis is preferred. Responsibilities include
day-to-day operation of a Varian 500MHz NMR spectrometer with 1H
Nano-NMR and I.d. PFG probes, development and implementation of new NMR
and data-analysis technologies, exploration of sensitive methods for
tagging oligosaccharides, and participation in cross-disciplinary team
problem-solving projects. Experience in glycoprotein biochemistry,
bioseparations and computational molecular modeling is desirable.
Effective communication and interpersonnal skills together with a
demonstrated capability of success in research will be important
criteria for selection.
