Dear Glycoscientists,

I have now been moderating the glycosci list for over one year - that means
I make sure that no irrelevant spam gets through to the readers (this takes
5 or so minutes of my time each week). The messages I let through are
announcements or adverts which I consider may be of potential interest to a
glycoscientist somewhere. What I have noticed, though, is that there are
almost no specifically "glyco"-messages. Thus I am wondering whether anyone
is reading the newsgroup anymore or whether should we just have it
abolished? I would hope, though, that - after nearly ten years - there is
still a role for a glycoscience newsgroup.

How may you help to enliven the list? For instance, if you have any
glyco-related jobs or conferences to announce or any glyco-related queries -
such as where to get reagents, particularly now that some companies are
removing glycoproducts from their portfolios, or how best to perform certain
procedures. You can also help by publicising, through your contacts or
national societies, that the list is now moderated and so should not add
lots of spam to your mailbox.

You can send your messages for the newsgroup and mailing list to
glycosci at net.bio.net. If you have comments about the moderation of the list,
then don't hesitate to contact me. Just to add: you don't need to subscribe
to the mailing list, but can also view the messages at
http://www.bio.net/hypermail/glycosci/
