defining antigenic dterminants

hi there folks,
i am in the process of using small peptides to raise antisera against larger
proteins, and i am wondering if anyone can help me with designing the epitopes
that i will use.  what are the relative advantages of using a carrier peptide
as against using the target peptide on its own?  what are the sequences in a
large peptide that will be T Cell helper epitopes, or antigenic determinants
and how can i predict them best??

any help or thoughts on this little problem would be most appreciated
