hematophages

Hello,
	I don't know if this is the correct group for this question, but 
I was wondering, how do the hematophages "defend" themselves from all the 
cells from the immune system that are found in the blood? do they suffer 
some kind of damage?.
	If anyone can answer me or suggest some bibliography, I will be
