uveaitis - HELP!

Have recent advances in immunology come up with a successful diagnosis 
and possible cure for uveaitis?  Is there an alternative to the prolonged 
use of cortizone and related steroids to effectively control the condition?

(I'm posting this inquiry for a friend in NYC who is suffering inexplicably
from this disease.  If anyone out there could direct me to a more appropriate
board for gleaning uveaitis information I would be most grateful.)
