Freund's Complete Adjuvant which contains mycobacterial components is one
of the best adjuvants available, but is it can cause discomfort to the
animal and lesions that take time to heal. Additionally the antigens
become denatured when emulsified with FCA and thus the antibody
specificities are affected. I have found that alum is almost as good as
FCA and it has the advantage of preserving the native structure of antigen
to which the antibody response is directed. The Alum adjuvant is also
available from Pierce or you can make your own. If you want a recipe,
