I recently read in Scientific American (Medicine) that up to 50% of
persons who work with proteolytic enzymes eventually develop
occupational-related asthma. Could this stat be accurate?
As a biochemist who regularly works with animals, animal tissues, and
purifed protein/enzyme preparations I would like to know whether
biochemists are at a greater risk for development of asthma and/or other
allergy problems. I never have really heard anyone address this issue.
Anyone out there have any opinions on this?
