INVITATION FROM THE CHAIRMAN
On behalf of the European Tissue Culture Society and its Czech branch we
cordially invite you to participate in the 42nd International Congress of the
Society. This is the first time that Congress is held in Czech Republic and
Brno, which is the second largest city of the country and a Metropolis of
South Moravia, is proud of hosting the participants in this Congress. As you
probably know, our beautiful city has much to offer in culture, scenery,
traditional cuisine and unforgettable peaceful atmosphere. It should also be
remembered that Brno is closely associated with the name of Johann Gregor
Mendel who lived in Brno and made his major discoveries of the laws of
heredity in a monastery located close to the Congress venue. Since in the year
1996 we will mark the 130th anniversary of the first publication of his
outstanding study results, the Congress has been devoted to Mendel4s
heritage. The unique scientific programme with the most prestigious speakers
at plenary symposia and workshops will cover many fields of basic and applied
research as well as industrial areas where cell and tissue cultures are
becoming an indispensable technique. This will be completed by selected poster
presentations that will highlight recent advances and research developments in
this multidisciplinary field. In addition, ad hoc organized mini-symposia
and round-table discussions are scheduled. We heartily invite you to come, to
meet and to exchange our knowledge. Your registration and presence in Brno
will be highly appreciated.
