Dear Sir,
	Could someone enlighten me?  I want to know more about current 
research on Food Allergy.    My friend is currently seeing an allergist at 
Johns Hopkins 
Medical University.  She was wondering if anyone else has any 
pertinant information.  Her diet is extremely limited.  She 
cannot have egg whites or yolks, lamb, pork, duck, rabbit, 
dairy products, goat milk, crab, salmon, tuna, almonds, 
brazilnuts, coconuts, pecans, walnuts (English and black), 
peanuts, green peas, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, lettuce, 
okra, onions, pumpkin, radish, spinach, squash, tomato, turnip, 
pineapple, chocolate, coffee, buckwheat, apples, avocados, 
bananas, cantelope, cherries, cranberries, grapefruit, lemons, 
oranges, clove, dill, ginger, mustard, olives, oregano, sage, 
sesame seed, thyme, vanilla, mushrooms, baker's or brewer's 
yeast, mangos, papayas, starfruit, pears, and apricots.  This 
is a small portion of what she cannot have.  Her allergist has 
linked each of these with an increase in IgE levels.  All of 
these allergic reactions include respiratory problems (choking, 
asthma, allergic rhinitis, blocked eustachian tubes), ecezma, 
hives, angioedema, allergic conjunctivitis, and in the past 
five years intestinal cramping and diarrhea.  Food allergy has 
been a life long problem for her.  Occasionally, after no 
exposure to a particular food for five years or so, she will 
stop reacting to the tests.  However, if she begins to eat 
small quantities, within a few months, she begins to react to 
the foods again.  A test will again show positive for allergy 
to the food.  She is currently on Tilade inhaler, PBZ, 
Vancenase, Ventolin, and Benedryl when necessary.  Also 
Gastrochrome is used occasionally.  Any ideas?  Please write to
