Immunodeficiency in DM

Dear Netters 

 It is well known that immune function is suppressed in the state of Diabetes
Mellitus.But the reason is not so clearly understood,if my memory it right.
Do you have any ideas or results on this? One of the possibilities is that the
recognition and adhesion are partially disturbed by high glucose in the blood.
Or it may be because of some endocrinological change  in DM.
 If anyone knows something on this,please tell me.Thank you.
