GM-CSF stands for granulocyte/macrophage colony stimulating factor.
Among its many functions, it has been shown to support the proliferation
of bone-marrow derived progenitors of both granulocytes and macrophages.
It is produced by many cell types including activated T cells,
fibroblasts, endothelial cells, monocytes and also the stromal cells of
bone marrow.
