I believe that HIV mutates its protien coat relatively rapidly,
hence making the efficacy of immunotherapy questionable. However, I've
heard that several researchers are looking into common glycoprotiens on
HIV in an attempt to create anti-HIV antibodies.
Also, I've read somewhere (sorry, no references available) that
it HIV infection does not occur without an immunologic response. On the
contrary, it seems that the immune system mounts a vigorous response
against HIV but is ultimately defeated by the rate of production of HIV
and other factors (eg. mutation of protien coat).
I'm no expert, however, and this is only a surmise on my part.
