Antibodies can recognize disaccharides. The human anti gal alpha1-3gal
response that is the major barrier to xenotransplantation is a case in
point. Those antibodies differentiate between the a1-3 and a b1-4
linkage.
To develop your own anti-sugar monooclonals you first have to couple the
sugar to a carrier protein and then immunise a non-tolerant host.
