ALL OF THE LYMPHOCYTES IN THE BODY EMERGE TO THE PERIPHERY PRECOMMITTED TO A
SPECIFIC ANTIGEN. STIMULATING ONE SET DOES NOT USE UP ANOTHER UNCOMMITTED
SET.
THE IMMUNE SYSTEM IS REPONDING ALL OF THE TIME. OTHERWISE WE WOULD NOT HAVE
ANY ANTIBODIES IN OUR BLOOD. GERM FREE MICE HAVE VERY LOW LEVELS OF ANTIBODY.
THE IMMUNE SYSTEM IS COMPLICATED, AND THE EXACT MECHANISMS FOR A PROTECTIVE
RESPONSE ARE LARGELY UNKNOWN. SOEMTIMES tH1 RESPONSES ARE PROTECTIVE, AND
OTHER TIMES tH2 RESPONSES ARE PROTECTIVE AND OTHERS ANTIBODY IS PROTECTIVE.
NONE OF THIS SAYS THAT ANY RESPONSE CREATES STERILING IMMUNITY, ONLY
PROTECTION FROM DISEASE. PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT GENES AND SOMETIMES RESPOND
TO THE SAME IMMUNOGEN DIFFERENTLY, AS THEY DO TO THE DISEASE. HOW DO THE
ANTI-VACCINE PEOPLE KNOW THAT THE SAME PEOPLE WHO HAVE BAD REACTIONS TO THE
VACCINE WOULD NOT HAVE BAD RESPONSES TO THE WILD TYPE ORGANISM.
THE LENGTH OF A PROTECTIUVE IMMUNE RESPONSE TO BOTH A NATURAL INFECTION AND
VACCINE ARE UNKOWN. FURTHER IT IS USUALLY CHAEPER TO REVACCINATE SOMEONE
THAN TO TEST FOR ANTIBODY (WHICH MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT THING TO TEST FOR).
FINALLY THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF WELL CONTROLLED EXPERIEMENTS WHICH SHOW THE
PROOF OF CONCEPT IN THE OPEN LITERATURE. IMMUNIZATION CAN PREVENT
SUBSEQUENT DISEASE IN A HOST OF ANIMAL AND VIRAL SYSTEMS. THE IDEA IS RIGHT
AS JENNER AND PASTUER SHOWED. THE APPLICATIONIS LESS THAN PERFECT, BUT SO
IS THE IMMUNE REPONSE.
