While not wanting to downplay the importance of minerals to good health I
would point out that the late Dr. Pauling also said that megadosing with
Vitamin C would prevent colds and influenza (large scale trials show it
doesn't) and prevent cancer (he and his wife took massive quantities and
still both died of cancer).
Being a Nobel laureate is no guarantee of infallibility (although, having
met him briefly, he seemed a nice enough old bloke).
