LABORATORY SPECIALIST (3408D) Veterinary Medicine
Experiment Station
Normal Starting Pay: $20,976 (Grade 8)
Supports veterinary infectious disease research in a multi-user
system, with minimal supervision, by initiating and carrying out the
development and performance of diverse experiments and assays.
Emphasis in, but not limited to, protein analysis and molecular
biology of prokaryotic. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors
degree, or equivalent level training and experience, in a biological
science; experience with protein and nucleic acid electrophoresis and
purification; experience with basic molecular biology techniques and
procedures; experience operating and maintaining manual and
automated chromatography systems; ability to perform minor
repairs on laboratory equipment; ability to work independently and
to communicate effectively with others; ability to organize and work
on more than one project simultaneously; ability to handle
radioisotopes. WITH PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR: Certified to work in a
BL-3 facility; licensed to work with radio-isotopes. FULL-TIME

Experiment Station
Normal Starting Pay: $20,976 (Grade 8)
Supports contract based veterinary infectious disease research in a
multi-user system, with minimal supervision, by initiating and
carrying out the development and performance of experiments and
assays involving prokaryotic, eukaryotic cells and animals and by
compiling and analyzing the resulting data according to specific
instructions from the assigned investigator. Emphasis in areas of
immunology, molecular biology and microbiology. MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of microbiological techniques with
emphasis in immunology and molecular biology; knowledge of use of
basic lab equipment and practices; ability to work independently,
organize and assume responsibility after initial supervision; ability to
work independently and to communicate effectively with others;
ability to organize and work on more than one project
simultaneously; ability to work with animals and handle
radioisotopes. WITH PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR: Knowledge of aseptic
techniques; certified for radio-isotopes and to work in a BL-3 facility.
FULL-TIME POSITION, ends 9/30/98, with possible extension.
