One guy who got a generalized reaction was Metchnikoff after
injecting finly ground activated charcoal into the abdominal
cavity. Aparently this was done prior to an operation to prevent
infection. Aparently2 there were humungous amounts of macrophages
waiting for something to show up to attack.
