We often get the following question?
I a patient is allergic to a sulfonamide containing antibiotic can the
patient take a medication sith sulfate in the name. IE morphine sulfate,
magneesium sulfate.
I always tell peopl that sulfate is a different structure from that of a
sulfonamide and that no cross reaction is expected because the patient is
not allergic to "s" but the compound itself.
Has anyone ever seen this written any where or a written explanation for
this. I would like to see it documented in an article or somthing so that
other people do not think I am crazy.
