I have been asked to prepare a review for the future of diagnostic tests for
serological chlamydia antibodies. I encounter 2 reactions.
The most common is that there is no future and that PCR will replace
serological testing.
The other says that PCR and antigen tests are no good for chronic infections
and that you should be comparing the difference in titres between antibody
classes. In addition, serology can be useful to classify the chlamydia
species to identify pneumoniae.
What are the opinions out there ? Is there a need for better serology tests
in the future ?
