There was a review some months back in Immunology Today from Farouk
Shakib's laboratory detailing their studies on some allergens in particular
Der p I where the allergen turns out to be a protease which cleaves
specific receptors off of the surface of B and T cells (eg the B-cell low
affinity IgE receptor) and thus reinforces a TH2 type of response.
