A Question on the Thymus...

Hello group.  I wonder if you can answer the first question...

Why is the thymus "not needed" in adulthood? Is that because some T cells become long-lived teachers?  Or is that because when T cells proliferate in an infection, their daughter cells automatically acquire knowledge, and are still capable of learning more about other antigens?
