This is just the sort of thing to bring up on this bulletin board.
It seems (i) that the editors of Science goofed in not checking that the
data had been deposited in GenBank or elsewhere, and
(ii) that the authors goofed (charitable interpretation) in not rem-
bering to deposit. Surely a note from you reminding them of
this obligation will be receive a prompt response.
