Nature's Instructions to Authors states that "less than 50%" of received
manuscripts are sent out for review. Does anyone have any inside information
on what less than 50% really means? 49%, 10%, 1%. Perceptions of whether it
is worth while submitting to Nature might alter if it were know that, for
example, only 1% are likely to be seen by reviewers competent in one's
research area.
