Abstracts provide an opportunity to get some new advance out there
in the scientific literature without peer review. (Ideally, the internet
should allow this, but reports are not easily citable, and not
necessarily stored in a form which will be accessible many years down
the line.)
Now, a good site for you abstract is the FASEB. Journal (if you are
a member or can get a member to sponsor you). However, this is only a
once-a-year opportunity. If your break-through occurs after the deadline
for submissions you have to wait a year, or try to place your abstract
elsewhere. Do not be lured by the invitation to submit a "late-breaking"
abstract. These will be reported in the conference papers to all those
who attend the conference, but will NOT appear in the FASEB. J.
