GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPs

Three graduate research assistantships are available to support graduate
studies toward a Ph.D. degree at Texas Tech University. Research projects
are: (1) field and laboratory genetic studies of plant responses to insect
and drought stresses and identification of genes controlling mite
resistance in maize, (2) advanced backcross QTL analysis for detection of
novel genes from exotic germplasm contributing to yield and drought stress
adaptation in sorghum, and (3) molecular breeding for drought and insect
tolerance in sorghum. The research will be conducted in collaboration with
an entomologist, a corn breeder, and two sorghum breeders of the Texas A&M
University Research Center in Lubbock. Interested students should submit a
statement of goals and research interest, a resume including academic
experience and three references, GRE score, TOEFL score (foreign student
applicants) and college transcripts. Annual stipends will range from
$12,000 to 14,000 plus insurance benefits. Arrange for three reference
letters and mail application materials to: Prof. Henry T. Nguyen, Plant
Molecular Genetics Laboratory, Department of Plant and Soil Science, Texas
Tech University, Lubbock, TX 79409-2122. Fax: (806) 742-2888.
