POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE in Maize
Cytogenetics/Genomics/Analysis of Meiosis
September 21, 1999

Postdoctoral positions are available for a new Ph.D. or a more
experienced researcher. Research projects are:
(1) to help develop a integrated cytological and genetic map using
state-of-the-art three dimensional (3-D) high resolution light
microscopy combined with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH),
to monitor the cytological position of genetically mapped single gene
loci, and middle repetitive sequence families on maize pachytene
chromosomes. Experience in plant molecular biology essential.

(2) to analyze the mechanism of the homology search during meiosis in
mutant and wild maize meiocytes. To clone meiotic genes using a
transposon tagging strategy.
Experience in plant molecular biology essential.

(3) to use molecular genetics and cytological strategies to analyze
the mechanism of the homology search during meiosis in fission
yeast. Experience in molecular biology essential.

Background in maize genetics preferred for 1 and 2. Salary will be
$25,000-$36,000 per annum,
commensurate with experience. Support is for two to three years
(negotiable), and can start as early as December 1,1999.
