Post-doctoral Position available
Plant Molecular Biologist

A post-doctoral research associate position is available immediately in the
USDA-ARS located on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, IA. The
incumbent will participate in a multidisciplinary collaboration aimed at
improving the nutritional, economic and agronomic value of corn kernels by
using recombinant DNA methods. The incumbent will be responsible for the
design and construction of genes for plant transformation and for analyzing
transgenic tissues to characterize the expression of the transgenes. This
may require the development of immunological or biochemical methods to
quantify transgene products. The initial objective is to develop varieties
suited to swine feed production by expressing high-value feed ingredients in
corn kernels. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a
state-of-the-art crop improvement program at the interface of molecular
biology and plant breeding.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and a record of demonstrated
accomplishments as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, as well as a
broad knowledge of plant biochemistry and molecular biology.

Annual salary is negotiable, but will be competitive and commensurate with
experience. The USDA is an equal opportunity employer. Minority and
disabled candidates are encouraged to apply. Candidates must have completed
all requirements for their Ph.D. prior to entrance on duty. According to
the annual Treasury, Postal Service and General Government Appropriations
act, applicants must be US citizens, or citizens of a country with a defense
treaty with the US (such as NATO, SEATO, RIO) or citizens of countries
exempted from this legislation. For example, nationals of the Peoples
Republic of China are eligible only if they were in the US on or after June
5, 1989 up until April 11, 1990 and if they qualify under the Chinese
Student Protection Act of 1992. Non-US citizens must have a green card.
