PhD student position available

UNIVERSIT=C9 DE GENEVE
Laboratoire de G=E9n=E9tique v=E9g=E9tale

A PhD student position is available in the=20
field of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis in=20
maize. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi=20
associate intimately with more than 80% of the=20
vascular plants and enhance the phosphate=20
nutrition of their hosts. At present relatively=20
little is known about the molecular components=20
responsible for the signal exchange leading to=20
mutual recognition, the establishment and=20
maintenance of the symbiosis. The identification=20
of plant mutants exhibiting altered mycorrhizal=20
phenotypes and the subsequent cloning of the=20
corresponding mutated genes selects factors=20
crucial for the formation of a functional AM=20
symbiosis.

The project makes use of already identified=20
mutants in maize displaying altered mycorrhizal=20
properties and will involve cloning and=20
characterization of genes from transposon induced=20
alleles.

The position is immediately available. A=20
background in plant molecular biology and=20
genetics is preferred but not required. Motivated=20
students should please send their applications to:
