BRUCE WASSERMAN YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD 

Purpose 

To recognize young scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the
field of cereal biotechnology. 

Scope 

The research recognized by this award should be relevant to the broad aims
of the AACC International. The work can be either basic (e.g., improved
understanding of structure-function relationships) or applied (e.g., new
approaches for cereal production, breeding or utilization). For the purposes
of this award, "Cereal Biotechnology" is broadly defined, and encompasses
any significant body of research using plants, microbes, genes, proteins or
other biomolecules. Contributions in the disciplines of genetics, molecular
biology, biochemistry, microbiology and fermentation engineering are all
included. The research will be evaluated by its impact as measured as either
enhanced knowledge of cereal functionality or improved cereal production or
utilization. 

Award 

The awardee will receive an honorarium of $1000 and will present an award
lecture at the 2008 AACC International Annual Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii. 

Eligibility 

Nominees must be no older than 40 by 1st July 2008 but nominations of
younger scientists are particularly encouraged. Achievements will be
considered in relation to the age and experience of the nominee. AACC
International membership is not required. In his or her career, a person can
only receive either the Bruce Wasserman Young Investigator Award or the AACC
Intl. Young Cereal Scientist Award. 

Nominating Procedure 

Nomination packets should contain the following: 

            . A letter of nomination, which clearly states the candidate's
qualifications for the award. 

            . A CV, which includes supporting data and a list of all
publications. 

            . Copies of the front pages (including abstracts) of the most
relevant publications (no more than ten in total). 

            . Up to three supporting letters of nomination from scientists
in the candidate's field of research 

 

An original and five copies of the nominations packet should be submitted by
January 15 2008 to the 2008 Biotechnology Division Awards Committee chair:
