Green laboratory

It was suggested to me the other day that Scientific organisations
might be significant point sources of pollution.  I am interested in
methods that attempt to avoid this problem and perhaps collecting
these into a newsletter.  I would like any tried and true methods 
that people might be using.  For example
Salt precipitation of DNA (replacing phenol etc)
