My experience with chloramphenicol amplification was that the earlier in log
phase you add the chloramphenicol, the better. I recall adding it at about
0.5 OD 540 for the best yields. Also, I seemed to get much improved yields
with normal aeration. Contrary to folklore, the fragility of the cells didn'
t seem to be a problem.
