An excellent review on Tms has recently been published:

Wetmur, James G. DNA probes:Applications of the principles of mucleic acid
hybridization. Crit. Rev. in Biochem. Mol. Biol. 26:277-259,1991.

Careful reading will reveal many important considerations for all kinds of
hybridization experiments.
