We have been told that we cannot order T7 DNA polymerase from
Pharmacia; because of a court order, it can be obtained only from
a company call Bio Systems somewhere in Ohio. Our stockroom
person has tried in vain to get a phone number for this company.

I think you refer to US Biochemical Corp, which markets a modified
T7 DNA polymerase for DNA sequencing (Sequenase). You can get
either native or modified T7 DNA pol from USB. Only the modified
enzyme is suitable for sequencing. Their number is 800 321 9322.

In an out-of-court settlement of a lawsuit, Pharmacia ceased
sales of their T7 DNA polymerase in the US. The enzyme is sold
by a number of other companies, but USB is the sole licensee
for the exonuclease-free (modified) form of the enzyme, which
was patented by Harvard University.

If you don't need the enzyme for sequencing, shop around for
the best price per unit. If you want the exo-free form, call
up USB.
