Thymidine and tissue culture

Dear all
I have a question from a colleague:

Does anyone know of the effects of thymidine on mammalian cell culture.
Millimolar concentrations of thymidine, I know, causes mitotic
arrest but we seem to be getting effects on cell proliferation
at concentrations of 100x less ie 0.01mM thymidine.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
