Lysis of bacteria

We are currently running PCR on samples consisting of a number of different
bacterial strains. We don't know which bugs are in the samples and are
utilizing a number of primers in this endeavour. Our main concern is this:
How do we know whether we really are able to lyse any bacterium, regardless
of cell wall composition etc.?
Can anyone out there suggest good lysing techniques that don't interfere with
PCR amplification?
