EM photos of phage on membrane vesicles

hi!
a friend presented a problem which someone here might be able to answer.
problem: how to prepare membrane preps so that electron micrographs
will show phage either able or unable to attach to the membranes.
presently, the preps look horrible.  the membranes are all folded over
or clumped up.  the ideal would be circular membranes with phage attached
to them.  btw, is there a good way to show if the dna has been injected or 
not?
