Hi Netter,
In the bacterial system IPTG is used because the promoter is IPTG inducible.
In the eucaryotic system the promoter does not depend on IPTG induction. So
for example with LacZ constructs with LTR or SV40 promoters or in transgenic
mice containing the LacZ gene under the control of a cellular promoter, there
is no need for IPTG.
