Whole cell, DNA, in situ hybridisation

In-situ experts:

We are trying to localise the subcellular position of a particular
gene to either the mitochondria or the nucleus.  We would like to use
in-situ techniques, as organelle purification is not practical in this 
case.

Has anyone ever used in-situ to look at the subcellular localisation of DNA?
