I've used 0.5 M salicylate-1.5% glycerol after the water wash for
H3-fluorography with good success. The gels don't crack as readily during
drying and the signal obtained was strong. (ref. Sambrook, et al. 1989.
Molecular Cloning: a laboratory manual).
