serine protease substrates

For want of a better visual marker in halobacteria, we are using a
serine protease. The problem is that the only detection substrate
we have is milk powder added to the agar (protease is detected by
clearing of the milk around a colony).

Does anyone know of any good colour substrates for plate detection
of serine proteases????
